Greetings to everyone from Ventura, California, USA
Jeff was a legend before his time. But he needed to be. Little did he or we know at the time, he would be leaving us on such sort notice. It was almost like he was way ahead of the game vocally, lyrically and musically. But he needed to be. He was already a legend before he died. Who else could have done it just one album into his carrer. We weren't ready for what Jeff had to offer us. He gave the music industry the adrenalin rush it needed. It was already filled with bands who had already "sold out" long before they even recorded thier first album. Jeff did't thrive on the glitz and glamor the came with the territory. He just wanted people to get whatever they wanted out of his music. He's even quoted to have said that. There are very few artists who can touch the inner sanctuary of your soul just by the rise and fall of thier voice. Jeff you will forever be missed. We will never know what could have been. You were so great at the time of your death just imagine what could have been. It's too painful for me to think about. Although your light was dimmed it will never go out. I know you will continue to inspire till the end of time. We love and miss you deeply. Thank you Mary Guilbert, without your efforts to keep Jeffs music alive I'm sure we wouldn't have as much as we do. I know your little Scottie is smiling down on you every moment. Thank you to the creators of JBC and Jeffbuckley.com. Where would us fans be without you. To all others involved with the continuing efforts to spread the word about Jeff's music. THANK YOU. Merry Christmas to all and kiss for your New Years headache.- Jeff Buckley Love, Aimee (Ventura County Jeff Buckley Meetup Group) |

thats a great post, i'm still reading on how so many artists changed their style and were influenced because of him, for example when radiohead were recording the bends they rerecorded so many of the songs after a jeff gig, into the now famous falsetto style, travis too as another

Another band that was inspired by Jeff's music is Cold Play. Although I have never heard of them admitting to it, I have always heard it be said that they are the "robbers of Jeff Buckley's grave."
Cold Play is a perfect example of a band that was not directly influenced by Jeff, that we know of, but has been inspired by the influence of Jeff's music that's left its mark on the music industry. I don't want speak bad of Cold Play. I have to admit that I also have acquired a taste for them. However, I myself cannot ignore the unsubtle hint of Jeff in their music. Whether it's the risks they take with their lyrics and music, or by the voice of Chris Martin. It all just seems like Jeff's doing. Moving on. If you haven't already, I would buy the book "A Wished For Song" by Merri Cyr. Not only is it a great read, you also get these wonder pictures of Jeff. It gives you an indebt look into the life of Jeff told by the people who knew him well. The pictures also tell their own story. One that can not be told in words. It's different than reading a biography. If you are like me you have read every single biography you can find looking for something that you didn't already know. Well, this book is better than any biography. When you've completed the book you feel as if you new Jeff personally. So I highly recommend it. I don't know why I have such a passion for Jeff and his music. Maybe it's because he will always be a mystery. Was he man or God? His voice was so angelic. Corpus Christi Carol is a good example. He really pushed his voice to the limit. Or did he? Did we only get the tip of the iceberg? How much more would he have given us? |

I have recently finished Dream Brother, the biography or Jeff and Tim Buckley, and in the Afterward, Chris Martin has admitted that in his song 'Shiver' he tried to recreate Jeff Buckley - Jeff Buckley is an enigma to me - I am completely in love with his music and live on a daily diet of his stuff, however, I feel that Coldplay are simply unique!

I have the book dream brother but I just can't read it yet. I get so sad when reading about Jeff sometimes because I never got the chance to see or hear him live. I feel that no other musician can compare so I have a hard time listening to other music as well. Although I do have to agree that Cold Play definately has some Buckley influence in their songs, but at the same time having a different sound. I saw them live September 1st and they were absolutely unbelievable in concert! Chris is amazing and loves the crowd. He was so into his fans & it showed beyond the way he sang to us that night. He is one of a kind! I was turned onto ColdPlay years ago when they were still an indie band. I didn't know Jeff existed at that time. I have only known Jeff's music since this past January. How sad!
PS-Merri Cyr's book Wished for Song is so well done, it's beautiful. I hope to buy a picture of hers some day of Jeff on tour! Melissa NY FAN |
